The verdict is in, people! Hulk Hogan just took Gawker Media for $115 million. Their pathetic network of sub-standard publications days’ are numbered. The Internet over has been cheering so fucking hard. This was a long time coming. It was time that somebody finally took one of these click-bait bastards to task. One of these companies that are so void of ethical standards that they have basically decided to just sell out in every sense of the word. It’s finally happened, and I am in love with it. Hulk Hogan gets to feel vindicated, and a company that is so shitty that they made a bad joke on the stand about what their standard is for releasing someone’s sex tape gets to pay for their crimes. It’s wonderful.
You wanna know the funny thing – it didn’t have to be this way. I am reveling in the schadenfreude as much as everyone else I know, but the worst thing is that Kotaku might not have people like me pointing and laughing as they are having to walk out the door. Stephen Totilo and his ilk at that joke of a website are going to have to polish up their resumes. It’s wonderful. Still, it didn’t have to be this way. If they hadn’t have gone after their audience the way that Kotaku did. If they hadn’t have been part of the “Gamers are Dead” blitz in 2014. If they hadn’t decided to stop being a publication that talked about games and instead became a publication talking about social justice, then maybe people might actually be mad at them about this. But that isn’t what happened. Instead, this company has people laughing at them all the way.
The reality is that this verdict is nothing but good things. Fifth Estate media is a joke. It’s a disgusting, repulsive joke. Hulk Hogan’s sex tape gets leaked? Let’s talk about it! Jennifer Lawrence’s naked pics gets leaked? Misogyny! Justin Beiber’s naked pics get leaked? Look at that dick! Scarlett Johansson’s naked pics leaked? This is offensive to women! The double-standard is absolutely off the charts. It’s high-time that people struck back at this kind of blatant cash-grab. If some people have to be unemployed for it to happen, so be it. You gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet.
All over Twitter, I’m seeing people reveling in this. Can’t wait to read Stephen Totilo’s final butthurt post about how wronged he has been by everyone else. Groj forbid that “journalist” actually take some responsibility for the things he’s said and done. Nothing but good things can come from this, and I am not going to miss Kotaku. Let’s hope that Polygon is next.
Until next time, a quote,
